Cherry Hill, NJ

4 local businesses worth knowing

Cherry Hill answered to Delaware Township until 1961. The post office forced a rename, residents wrote in suggestions, and the name that won came off a local farm. That same fall the Cherry Hill Mall opened as the first enclosed air-conditioned shopping center in the Northeast, and the town has anchored the region commercially ever since.

Skip the mall. The reason to drive here is Route 70. Marlton Pike carries one of the densest runs of Korean and Japanese kitchens in South Jersey, and it hides behind strip mall signage you would never slow down for. Stone bowls, ramen counters, late hours. Cherry Hill is the closest thing we have to a food corridor, and almost all of it sits in parking lots off a highway.
